(Notes #2) Selfish

I was inspired by the story of popular American Actress, Angelina Jolie. She was born into Hollywood, the child of famous actors. She was well known for drug usage, wild behavior and destructive actions. But then, she read the script for “Beyond Borders”, a movie she was casted in. The story was about a woman living a privileged life who discovers the sufferings of refugees and orphans around the world. She recalls that something in her really wanted to understand the meaning of film, the plight of refugees.
For one year, she travelled with the United Nations workers around the world to learn more. Her entire perspective changed. In her own words, “I got my greatest life education and changed drastically”.
Now, She estimates her donations to charity about one third of her income. Angelina Jolie is now one of the most influential philiantropists in the world. She feels that way because she started putting other people first.

William B. Given Jr. observed ” Whenever you are too selfishly looking out for your own interest, you have only one person working for you – and that’s yourself! When you help a dozen other people with their problems, you have a dozen people working with you”.

When it comes to winning with people, it all begins with thinking about people other than ourselves. It sounds simple right, but not everyone gets it. The bottom line : people need to understand that not everything is about themselves.

I’m back with notes from the book I’m reading, winning with people by John C. Maxwell. This week, I’ll be sharing a little piece I call the Selfish Principle. I named it so because it sounds like the perfect definition of a selfish person. Sort of like, the attributes of self-centered people.

If I like it, it’s mine.
If I can take it away from you, it’s mine.
If I had it a while ago, it’s mine.
If I say it’s mine, it’s mine.
If it looks like mine, it’s mine.
If I saw it first, it’s mine.
If you’re having fun with it, it’s DEFINITELY mine.
If you lay it down it’s mine.

I’ll end this post from a quote by Angelina Jolie. “Live on one-third, save one-third and give one-third” – Angelina Jolie.
Thanks for reading ❤️
